According to SXSW happening this week in Austin, 40% of Google results are now “Social Search” results – meaning content picked up from places like LinkedIn, Facebook (have you noticed search results here, too?), Twitter, etc.

TheSassySEO Says: If you are not engaging with your prospects and customers, it’s a good time to start. Be a part of the conversations – they are 2-way, not 1-way. Add value and relevance to your interactions and LISTEN to what is being said. Your results will thank you for it, and so will your relationships.

In the PwC IAB Online Advertising Expenditure Report from the third-quarter of 2009, Search and Directories made up 50.9% of total advertising spend.

Online advertising hit an all time high of $466.25 million in this quarter.

TheSassySEO Says: Though Search & Directories are clear winners, consider where your audience is engaging & look for opportunities to reach them. It could be banner ads on a focused site or it could be profit-sharing program with one of the top bloggers in your industry. Remember to ensure you are in relevant and focused directories, too.

According to Marketing Sherpa: 30% of high quality leads and 37% of high quantity leads come from Search Engine Optimisation.

MediaMatrix reports that over 85% of people on the Internet use search engines. Search is becoming more of a staple of our web experience and Nielson/NetRatings predict online searches will grow in the US at the rate of 39% Gartner confirms search will continue to increase.

SOCIAL MEDIA:

From Forrester’s Social Technographic roles: 43% of all Australians engage in the following online behaviour: blogs, video, podcasts, forums, and reviews/ratings. In 2008, 18% actually create their own content & post.

OTHER STATS:

Hitwise reports the use of search engines in Australia has increased by almost 20 percent since the first week of January 2006.

Search engines are crucial for anyone using the Internet. Ninety-five percent of all web traffic comes from a few search engines. In the Australia market, Google search makes up 88% of all Australian searches (June 2008). This is a 12% increase over last year (per Hitwise). MSN search makes up 7% and Yahoo! search is 4% percent.

According to a new Marketing Sherpa survey: One-fifth of respondents called SEO their “strongest tactic” for ROI – up 3 percentage points from 2007 to 21%. Also, “good ROI” jumped 2 points to 38% from last year.

Don’t get left behind while the rest of the industry is optimising. It’s true that the tools will evolve and algorithms will change how rankings are rated, so it’s important to  set your site up properly and diligently monitor it.
